SIMPLY BATHROOM
The bathroom concept Dot is a congenial project by One. For its realisation, Alberto Alessi specifically sought collaboration with an expert in modern architecture. His intention: to fathom to what extent architecture could still benefit contemporary design.
Wiel Arets, a freethinker as well as an important exponent of the architectural scene in Holland, was eventually chosen for the task. Previously in 2000 he had participated in a project for tea and coffee sets launched by ALESSI, and he was immediately noted for his intellectual yet pragmatic ideas. Alberto Alessi called him one of the design heroes of the 21st century.
Formal and minimalist: these are the main elements of Dot. The key element they all have in common is the circle though that is not always obvious. The highly restrained design with its closed form exudes tranquillity through elegant moderation. For Wiel Arets the sculptural detail of the form is not a primary concern. Rather, the attractive qualities of his objects are the result of their concentration and intensity. The slanted form gives the essentially bulky ceramic units a playful lightness and at the same time a humble look.
The showertray is enclosed by a beautifully rounded security glass wall whose anti-plaque coating prevents the build-up of tiresome limescale deposits and eases daily cleaning. The discreet, rounded contours of the frameless shower enable it to harmonise perfectly with its surroundings without dominating the bathroom. The sliding door runs on sturdy rollers and the intensely curved security glass is set into the shower tray which offers a firm hold for feet and catches every drop of water.
