Architect and designer duo Roberto and Ludovica Palomba, who have collaborated with Laufen on a wide range of projects, were recognised for their design excellence with the Simon Taylor Lifetime Achievement Award at the recent Designer Kitchen & Bathroom Awards in London.
The awards were announced at a gala dinner at Supernova in Embankment Gardens in London, with Roberto and Ludovica Palomba lauded for the influence they have had on bathroom design during their careers.
Ludovica+Roberto Palomba, work and live in Milan. They founded Palomba Serafini Associati in 1994 and have since collaborated with some of the most prestigious global design brands including Boffi, KitchenAid, Kos, Samsung, Schiffini, Valli&Valli and Zucchetti.
The Palomba Collection was the couple’s first bathroom project for Laufen in a concept they dubbed as the ‘fingerprint of nature’. With additions introduced in 2013, the design of the Laufen Palomba Collection resembles small inlets or pebbles shaped by the eternal movement of the sea, expertly transformed into ceramic. Items from the Collection have won several design prizes, including the red dot award, the iF product design award and the Design Plus label.
The design duo’s most recent collaboration with Laufen saw the creation of the Kartell by Laufen collection, which combines ceramic with plastic in a design led way in the bathroom for the first time. This project from Ludovica+Roberto Palomba is also the first to feature Laufen’s revolutionary ceramic, SaphirKeramik to create washbasins with super-thin profiles.
The Simon Taylor Award for lifetime achievement presented at the Designer Kitchen & Bathroom Awards is named in memory of a talented young kitchen designer who won one of the very first awards when the event started 13 years ago.
Presenting the Award to Roberto Palomba, Editor of Designer Kitchen & Bathroom Magazine, Martin Allen-Smith, said: “Some of their designs have previously won gold in the Product Innovation Awards at this event, but now is very much the right time to acknowledge their much wider contribution to the industry.”
