Kartell by Laufen pays tribute to the importance of craftsmanship in the industrial process, with a special installation and conversation.

Once again this year Kartell by Laufen has decided to take part in Brera Design Days, an important moment of reflection and debate on design, involving the entire neighborhood, with the aim to create a dialogue with the city during Milano Fall Design Week. From 6 to 12 October, evenful days followed one another in a succession of meetings, exhibitions, conferences, workshops developed in 60 events distributed in 24 locations and 20 showrooms in Brera Design District, with more than 3000 participants. On the evening of 12 October Kartell by Laufen invited Marco Sammicheli, design curator, journalist and editor of the magazine Abitare, and Ludovica and Roberto Palomba, the designers of the collection, for a conversation with the title “Producing culture has no scale.”

The event started with the screening of the Laufen company movie directed by Marc Comes, where visitors had a first-hand experience of the entire production process, from the raw materials to the finished product, by way of the countless phases involving eyes, hands and tools to lead to an impeccable final result. The conversation touched on many topics such as the integration between industrial process and craftsmanship, the role of the culture of design and product in the process of creating and the work of a designer seen as a reaction to the transformation of society.
The still fundamental role of craftsmanship and handiwork emerged during the dialogue: in spite of standardisation, a true culture of design and product is still conserved, even in a context of mechanised and technologically advanced production with a strong vocation for innovation like that of Laufen. Craftsmanship and industrial processes are intertwined, nurtured by major investments in research and development and by increasingly sophisticated technologies that have led to revolutionary inventions like SaphirKeramik, the strong point of Kartell by Laufen, a collection born from the merger of Kartell's iconic plastics and the Laufen’s Swiss ceramic quality, combined to redefine the bathroom concept.
