Laufen celebrates shared creativity.
The stand designed by atelier oï and Beda Achermann, bespoke projects based on collaboration with prestigious architects, collections made with the innovative material Saphirkeramik with design by Konstantin Grcic and Toan Nguyen, and the Kartell by Laufen collection created by Ludovica and Roberto Palomba, an integrated project where the original, innovative approach of Kartell meets the quality and research of Laufen.
Once again this year Laufen arrives at the Salone Internazionale del Bagno 2016 with important new developments, original projects and increasingly ambitious goals connected by a single red thread: the sharing of knowledge and ideas.
The company puts a special accent on bespoke projects developed with architects and designers: an installation that underlines Laufen’s role as a worldwide leader in the production of custom solutions for bathroom design.
A selection of case histories that have given Laufen a chance to experiment with materials, resources and creativity, consolidating its position of leadership in the sector and confirming its great capacity to glimpse concepts while they are still taking form, developing and implementing refined custom solutions.
Projects that range from the single piece to large numbers, where the Swiss company has proven its ability to respond to all kinds of needs, from the reproduction of a historic object to the creation of standardized products on a large scale, as well as “site-specific” and custom projects.
Intense creativity and experimentation generate products of the highest quality and technology: Ino, Val and Kartell by Laufen, the key collections of the Swiss bathroom design leader, have gained widespread popularity and success, also thanks to the invention of the extraordinary avant-garde ceramic material Saphirkeramik, which has led to the development of high-performance products.
Designed by the Swiss studio atelier oï, the Laufen stand is a spacious square island of about 400 m2, with a lounge area at its centre providing a place to meet, exchange and share, a modern agora to welcome visitors, where they can discover and interact with the company’s products.
The visual design has been assigned to Beda Achermann, who has underlined the mysterious qualities of the architecture using distorted and almost overexposed images.
While never neglecting retail operations, for some time now Laufen has understood the importance of custom projects, ranging from architecture to prefabrication, conservation of cultural heritage to the visual arts. A dynamic, growing market full of opportunities, thanks to continuous growth of national and international demand. Laufen has invested major resources to develop and nurture the right kinds of expertise in a special in-house division. The idea is not simply to supply products, but to propose a more complete range of services, from global design to turnkey solutions and customization.
Custom-made products today, with their very high level of finishing and design, represent decisive factors in the creation of unique, exclusive interiors. This is why Laufen works in direct contact with architects and designers to develop products that are “tailored” to their specific needs.
The case histories presented are:
56 Leonard – New York – project by Herzog & de Meuron
Battersea Power Station (Phase 1) – London
Villa Tugendhat – Brno – Mies van der Rohe
Impressoes – Brazilian designers
The cutting edge of Laufen since its development in 2013 after years of research is Saphirkeramik, a unique, revolutionary high-tech ceramic material, much thinner and lighter than traditional ceramics, with extraordinary properties of hardness and strength, and outstanding flex resistance. These exceptional characteristics have allowed Laufen to create a new generation of products, thanks to the contributions of highly acclaimed designers like Ludovica and Roberto Palomba, Konstantin Grcic and Toan Nguyen, who have been able to hone their ideas with a material that offers maximum expressive potential. They have explored its wide range of possibilities to develop concepts that have now become engineered products, ready for large-scale marketing and distribution.
KARTELL BY LAUFEN by Roberto and Ludovica Palomba
The result of the established partnership between the iconic design of Kartell and the innovative quality of Laufen, the Kartell by Laufen collection includes a complete range of furnishings, accessories, fixtures and faucets designed by the award-winning duo Ludovica and Roberto Palomba.
Quality, innovation, research on materials, emotion, glamour, energy and colour: these are just some of the ingredients and values of a project that was born a winner and from its outset has reaped amazing success on the market and with design critics.
VAL by Konstantin Grcic
The creative brilliance of Konstantin Grcic, together with his great ability to take new materials and new production methods to their limits, has led to the eclectic VAL collection in Saphirkeramik.
First presented at the Salone del Mobile 2014 as a concept for several washstands with 3D textural surfaces, the collection has been transformed into solutions with simple, functional but at the same time highly functional design.
INO by Toan Nguyen
Beginning in 2011, the collaboration between Laufen and Toan Nguyen has led to the creation of the INO series, for which the french designer has explored the almost infinite possibilities for working with Saphirkeramik, exploiting its thin lightness to produce an aesthetic of simple, elegant lines.
The starting point is the archetypal form of the washbasin, reinterpreted to create a practical, functional product for everyday use with a very appealing image.
RIVA shower toilet
Designed by Peter Wirz, the most striking new entry for 2016 is the extraordinary RIVA shower toilet, already the winner of the prestigious Red Dot Award 2016. A masterpiece of Swiss engineering and design, an essential piece that combines supreme luxury and maximum hygiene, the highest technology and clean, elegant lines.
Laufen’s participation at the Salone Internazionale del Bagno represents another important opportunity to display its products and its latest creations, while indicating the direction taken in technological, functional and formal research, the possibilities offered by continuous in-depth experimentation, and the ability to produce on a large scale or for individual custom projects.
The new project for the windows of the Milan showroom: Inside the box
A secret box inspired by the atmospheres of the Far East for the new windows of the Kartell by Laufen showroom, specially designed by Ludovica and Roberto Palomba for the Milan Design Week.
Materials for architecture, interiors and design, together for a new interpretation of the world of the bath: an unusual setting, with the archetypal forms of a house, contains the new installation in an unusual combination of apparently conflicting materials.
Soft Home, Interiors and digital experience
Multimedia installation produced by Elle Décor Italia
In the context of the FuoriSalone, Laufen will be part of the exhibition Soft Home, with the innovative VAL collection in Saphirkeramik by Konstantin Grcic: the protagonists are the asymmetrical washstand and the round tray, both in Saphirkeramik, along with the enveloping freestanding bathtub in the material Sentec.
Produced by Elle Decor Italia with the collaboration of H-Art and UdA Architetti, and inserted in the neoclassical setting of Palazzo Bovara, Soft Home is a new cultural project of strikingly innovative content that explores the concept of interior design in relation to habitat and lifestyles, combining aesthetics and technology.
A multimedia installation that encourages visitors to have an immersive experience of contemporary living, through interaction with the objects of the “soft” house, seen as a welcoming, yielding, comfortable place. An interactive and experiential path that winds as if the house were truly inhabited by someone, engaging all the senses and encompassing a simple but unexpected digital experience.
