BIG Formgiving

Formgiving - Largest BIG exhibition at the Danish Architecture Center

Jun. 04, 2019

For their experimental, innovative and playful designs, star architect Bjarke Ingels and his architecture firm BIG are world famous. From 12 June to 20 October 2019, the Danish Architecture Center (DAC) in Copenhagen hosted “Formgiving”, the most comprehensive exhibition of the BIG universe to date – from the Big Bang to the Mars Settlement. Those interested in architecture, design and culture found installations, models, films, prototypes and everything that has inspired BIG to explore the boundaries of architecture. The Swiss bathroom brand Laufen supported the exhibition as a sponsor.

Venues of the exhibition were the new premises of the Danish Architecture Center in the shortly before opened Blox in the heart of Copenhagen. The iconic open-concept building was designed by the prestigious Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) led by Rem Koolhaas and Ellen Van Loon. The BIG exhibition used all the galleries of the DAC and wanted to encourage the visitors to become creative themselves. Throughout the exhibition, the DAC offered events, guided tours and Lego workshops for children of all ages, as well as a conversation with Bjarke Ingels.

“Formgiving” took place from 12th June to 20th October 2019 at the Danish Architecture Center, Bryghuspladsen 10 in Copenhagen and was sponsored by the Swiss brand Laufen. “BIG’s approach to pushing the boundaries of architecture constantly is related to Laufen’s approach to bathroom architecture. After the 3daysofdesign we saw our commitment as another opportunity to expand the dialogue with the Nordic design and architecture community,” explains Daniel Nielsen, Managing Director Nordic and Baltic countries at Laufen.
