A game of experimentation, from research to wellness, in an artistic museum-like setting
Kartell by Laufen took part in the Milan Design Week with an artistic, museum-like installation at the heart of the Brera Design District, at the Kartell by Laufen flagship store on Via Pontaccio.
Ludovica + Roberto Palomba, the creative minds of the Kartell by Laufen project, continue their experimentation and innovation in the bathroom sector. For the first time, Kartell by Laufen was presenting an engaging, exploratory and conceptual exercise on washbasins that combines design and research.
It is a voyage of suggestions, in which East meets West in an atmosphere of forceful emotional impact. A sort of box whose walls take on an orange hue from the palette of Le Corbusier, a tribute to the tone that best represents the birth of the Kartell by Laufen project. Research for this project took its cue from the iconic Japanese “dim sum” tableware, leading to prototypes with very free and playful forms, utilised to “set” a sort of large table.
The display with the table at center stage contains and highlights simple, traditional forms, new and amusing silhouettes. A conceptual approach that started with a basic idea to generate a change of increasingly considered profiles. A voyage that took concrete form through the use of a sophisticated material like Saphirkeramik, a high-performance ceramic that permits production of wafer thin pieces, with very small radii and surfaces that are extremely pleasing to touch and look at.
Starting with the colours of food and the objects that establish shared relations on the table, Ludovica + Roberto Palomba found inspiration for the design of a washbasin concept. Iconic forms that range from rounded profiles to more rigorous, squared shapes, even futuristic at times, set apart by unexpected shades of red, green and brown, suggesting unique shadows and contrasts.
The walls of the showroom form the backdrop for captivating photographs, selected to illustrate the game of experimentation, in an ironic take on the dreamy relationship between food and the world of the bathroom, where toothbrushes become chopsticks, soap dishes become saucers, and so on.
Once again the Kartell by Laufen flagship store took on a noble, unique atmosphere; the bathroom becomes a space of expression in which every detail created by the Italian design duo Ludovica + Roberto Palomba has been carefully refined to offer diversified and personalised solutions.
A new interpretation of the needs of modern everyday life, where the relationship with the domestic environment and with the bathroom in particular focuses on aspects linked not only to the functional dimension, but also and above all to the emotional sphere, towards rediscovery of the self, personal wellbeing and care for the body.
