A modernist jewel reimagined.
Villa Mayfair, an architectural masterpiece nestled in Barcelona’s prestigious Via Augusta, reopened its doors in 2022 after three years of meticulous renovation and expansion. Originally designed by celebrated Catalan architect Enric Sagnier in 1910, this iconic modernist villa embodies the splendour of early 20th-century design with a strong British influence, reflecting the heritage of the Bertrand family, its original owners.
The renovation, led by renowned Spanish interior designer Cristina Rodríguez Pujol, has breathed new life into the villa, transforming it into The Creation House, a unique space designed for professionals in the worlds of design and architecture. The project brought together more than 150 artists, technicians, artisans, and manufacturers, including notable brands like LAUFEN, to redefine the role of Villa Mayfair in modern-day Barcelona. Now, this elegant mansion serves as a platform for design and architecture professionals, a place where the cutting edge of creativity is showcased in a setting that honours its historical roots.
Surrounded by lush, Indian-inspired gardens, Villa Mayfair is a secluded sanctuary in the heart of the bustling city. Its three floors offer a subtle luxury through the use of noble materials and thoughtful design details, creating a delicate, relaxing atmosphere. Each space within the villa has been curated to inspire, surprise, and engage the senses - whether it’s for intimate gatherings, private events, or immersive design showcases.
One of the standout features of the renovation is the seamless integration of LAUFEN products. The spacious family bathroom showcases the striking circular VAL bathtub, designed by Konstantin Grcic, while the Kartell • LAUFEN collection in black is framed with a dramatic backdrop of Carrara marble, creating a space for relaxation and rejuvenation. This interplay of materials underscores Villa Mayfair’s commitment to high-end, contemporary living while maintaining its historical elegance.
Designed by master architect Mies van der Rohe between 1929-30, this three-story modernist monument is located in a quiet neighborhood across sprawling terrain in the Czech Republic.
