56 Leonard Street, New York, USA
The 60-story building, standing 830-feet high, is a vertical glass expression with unique cantilevered apartments which offer breathtaking panoramic views of Manhattan as far as the Atlantic Ocean. At the tower’s base there is an integrated stainless steel sculpture by Anish Kapoor. With this unprecedented symbiosis between art and architecture, the synergy between building and sculpture appears to form a single unified object.
The interior details are absolutely unique in New York’s residential luxury towers to date. Herzog & de Meuron complement art and furniture with customized elements, like sculptural floor-to-ceiling fireplaces that anchor the great room.
In order to meet requirements for bespoke bathroom solutions of unrivalled quality, the architects have taken advantage of Laufen’s in-depth knowledge of designed custom fabrication. The concept of individuality and intimacy is reflected in every room, including the bathrooms, which feature a range of products designed by the architects and custom-made by Laufen to their precise specifications. The washbasins and bathtubs were produced in Laufen’s solid surface material called Sentec. Their pill-shaped design corresponds to forms found throughout the residences. Further the wall mounted Laufen Pro WC’s, which were treated with a custom matt-white coating, have completed this incredible bathroom design.
