A contemporary retreat in Slovakia’s High Tatras

Located in Horný Smokovec, one of the most desirable areas in Starý Smokovec, the complex blends Slovak architectural heritage with a contemporary design language tailored to modern travellers. 

Designed by the award-winning firm Atrium Architects, led by Ing. Arch. Michal Burák, recipient of the Dušan Jurkovič and CE ZA AR prizes, the project transforms a historic three-storey building into a serene, design-forward retreat. Nestled just steps from the Tatra Electric Railway, it encourages sustainable mobility while offering panoramic views of the region’s dramatic peaks. 

Inside, the apartments feature a warm yet minimalist aesthetic. Clean lines, natural textures and premium finishes create a sense of calm continuity. Each unit is equipped with a private terrace or balcony, a fully furnished kitchen and, depending on the typology, an in-room sauna. With floorplans ranging from one-bedroom studios to spacious family layouts, the project redefines the standards of comfort in Slovakia’s luxury apartment segment. 

  Bathrooms play a key role in shaping the guest experience. Kartell LAUFEN washbasins and wall-hung toilets pair functionality with expressive design, while the sculptural freestanding LUA bathtub brings a touch of spa-like indulgence to selected interiors. Together, these elements support the overall vision: architecture and interior design in perfect balance with the surrounding nature.
