ART AND DESIGN INSTALLATION PRESENTING THE NEW SPACE COLLECTION - LAUFEN SPACE MILAN

“How dare you” is the title of this year’s art and design installation at LAUFEN space Milan for the Design Week. A provocative question that refers to the courage of going beyond one’s limits and create courageous, eclectic and surprising projects.  The exhibitions presents LAUFEN’s new space collection.

The LAUFEN space Milan hosts ‘How dare you’, an eclectic and faszinating installation designed by Milan-based Studio LYS for Fuorisalone 2023.  The intentionally provocative title mirrors the power that fundamentally arises in experimental and playful explorations, from the fusion of different disciplines such as architecture, design and art.

NM3 – Monique Baumann – Marcel Wanders

The exhibition winds its way through the LAUFEN space Milan, from the internal courtyard into the space of the ground floor, then continuing into the showroom on the second floor. This space hosts the two main characters of the show: The clean and shiny steel objects by Milan-based designers NM3 are juxtaposed with the colourful, poetic pop collages of Swiss artist Monique Baumann.

On the one hand, the material-focused, pure and multi-faceted stainless steel objects by NM3 are presented in a setting with the classical Milanese architecture and in dialogue with details of the famous ingressi, the elegant marble entryways of Milan’s most iconic buildings.

On the other hand, you will find the colourful and poetic pop collages of Swiss artist Monique Baumann in a playful dialogue with the glaze of selected ceramic objects from the Kartell • LAUFEN collection as well as the ADA faucet storage discs.

Dutch designer Marcel Wanders contributes in his unmistakable decorative language three delicate relief motivs applicated on his The New Classic collection made with Saphirkeramik. Also presented is the Falconnier Chandelier, a decidedly unusual piece from the designer’s joint work with LAUFEN. It is a tribute to the Swiss engineer Gustave Falconnier, who towards the end of the 19th century invented a technique for making glass blocks that was widely used in architecture. Wanders’ chandelier consists of glass blocks made with original Falconnier molds and is complemented with blocks in Saphirkeramik in matt finish.

More objects complete the exhibition.

“How dare you” offers a journey through different scenarios, emerged from the curious eye and eclectic soul of LAUFEN.
